In February 1999, David began his professional musical career by joining the Band of the Welsh Guards. This was a proud milestone, especially as his father was serving as the band's bass trombonist at the time. After performing alongside his father for a year, David succeeded him in the role, holding the position for the next fourteen years.

In 2014, David was promoted and posted to the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers, beginning a new chapter in his military career. Two years later, he moved to the Band of the Irish Guards. Most recently, in September 2025, David was promoted to Colour Sergeant and returned home to the Band of the Welsh Guards.

Outside his military commitments, David remains an active figure in the local music community. He played bass trombone with The Medway Band from 2012 to 2017 and, since 2014, has served as Musical Director of the 1st Whitstable Scout Group Band — a role he continues to fulfil with pride and enthusiasm. In 2017, David joined Marconi Brass as a percussionist and became the band’s Musical Director in 2020, a position he proudly held until October 2025.

In November 2025, David was appointed Musical Director of Simon Langton Brass. He is proud to uphold the band’s ethos and is a passionate encourager of young musicians from local schools, ensuring they have opportunities to develop and thrive within the brass band tradition.

David has a particular interest in all things related to Mercer and Barker mouthpieces, reflecting his ongoing enthusiasm for the craft and development of brass playing. He’s also known for his cheerful habit of taking a selfie at nearly every concert — a light-hearted way of capturing and celebrating the joy of performing.
